Information for Law Enforcement

This page serves as a resource for law enforcement officials conducting official investigations. It outlines how Rec Room cooperates with law enforcement to provide player information in accordance with applicable laws.

About Rec Room

Rec Room is a user-generated content (UGC) video game app where millions worldwide can create, socialize, and play together. Players who register as 13+ using a “non-junior” account can communicate with others in the following ways:

  1. Voice chat can be used to talk with others in rooms that can be public or private. Public rooms are open for anyone to join via the game menu. Private rooms are accessible only through invitations from other players.

  2. Direct messages allow players who are friends in Rec Room to send one-to-one text chat messages. Group chats with two or more players are also supported. Text chat is only available to players on non-junior accounts. Rec Room does not support uploading external photos or videos stored on a player’s device and sharing via chat.

  3. Room chat allows players to send text chat messages visible to all non-junior players within the same room or game instance. Messages are only visible to players in that instance and are not stored.

Data Retention Policies

Our Privacy Policy outlines our data retention policies and procedures. We may provide access to, or retain, a player’s Personal Information to cooperate with official investigations or legal proceedings (e.g., in response to subpoenas, search warrants, court orders, or other legal processes), or to comply with mandatory reporting requirements, such as to the NCMEC CyberTipline.

Child Safety

When we detect or become aware of potential child safety concerns, our Trust & Safety team promptly conducts a thorough investigation. If appropriate, we file a CyberTip report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), following applicable laws. NCMEC works with law enforcement globally to address these cases. We may also take action against accounts we report to NCMEC to remove their access to our platform.

For law enforcement submitting data requests related to a CyberTip, please include the relevant NCMEC report number to help ensure timely and effective processing.

Submitting Requests for Player Information

Rec Room discloses player data in accordance with our Terms of Service and applicable laws, including 18 U.S.C. § 2701–2712.

Law enforcement officials may submit requests through our dedicated email: lawenforcement@recroom.com. To help avoid delays, please use an official law enforcement email address when contacting us.

When submitting a request, please include:

  • The username(s) of the player(s) in question;

  • The time period for which you are requesting data; and

  • The NCMEC CyberTip report number, if applicable.

If the request is not related to a CyberTip, please provide any additional identifying information that may assist in locating the account and the relevant legal process in support of the request.

We strive to be as responsive and helpful as possible, and typically respond to law enforcement requests within 24 to 48 hours on business days (M-F) in the Pacific time zone. For emergency requests involving an imminent risk to life or safety, we make efforts to respond as quickly as possible, including during weekends and holidays.
