Video Contest 6: Music Videos 2.0

Video Contest: Music Videos 2.0!

Welcome to the sixth Video Contest! This time, we’re redoing our first and most popular theme: Music Videos! This contest has a new in-game item prize and token prizes this time around! Create, film, and edit the perfect music video AGAIN! It can be a recreation of your favorite music video, an original creation, or a compilation of shots timed to music. Anything that feels like a music video is fair game.

There’s some important information about copyright with this contest, so make sure you read the whole document BEFORE YOU START!

PS4 / PSVR players: You can use PS share to gather clips! Tutorial HERE

Oculus Quest players: The Quest has built in recording to gather clips. Tutorial HERE

If you would like to use the Rec Room Streamer Cam for more camera angles, find a PC player to add to your team to be a camera operator! Streamer cam tutorial HERE

Unfortunately for now the streamer cam only works on PC due to Sony and Oculus Quest restrictions. We will continue looking into ways we may be able to bring more views to those platforms in the future!

PRIZES

  • a brand-new in game item: the Video Contest headset!

  • 4,000 tokens per single player!

  • Video Contest trophy!

There will be 20 winning videos with up to 5 credited creators per video. The video can have as many people as you need in it, but only 5 can get rewards. If you are in multiple winning videos, you will still only get one set of rewards total.

HOW DO I SUBMIT A VIDEO?

Join the Rec Room Discord Server and post a YouTube link to your video in the #video-contest-submissions channel. For the first five days of the contest, the channel will be visible but closed. This is to discourage low-effort submissions. Take the time to put more effort into your video before posting!

The video can be unlisted or public, but we would prefer you make it public so that everyone in the community and online can watch it! Be sure to read all of the rules below before submitting.

WHEN IS THE CONTEST?

Now until Saturday, September 10th at 11:59 pm PDT.

RULES

  • Videos must be a minimum of 1 minute long, and must not exceed 4 minutes. Credits do not count towards the final time.

  • The video must fit the category of Music Videos.

  • The video must follow the Code of Conduct. If you want to ask if the song/video you want to recreate is appropriate, please DM either emilywafflesyay#1577 or Hairy#2938 on discord BEFORE YOU START YOUR PROJECT! Inappropriate songs submitted will be disqualified.

  • All videos must be uploaded to YouTube and submitted to the #video-contest-submissions in the Rec Room Discord between the dates August 27th to September 10th (ending at 11:59pm PDT). Any videos uploaded before or after the start date will be disqualified.

  • Videos MUST be tagged with #RRMV22 in YouTube.

  • If you are doing a recreation/are using an existing song, the link to it must be in the description of your submission, along with any other external sources.

  • You may submit multiple videos to the contest or work on a number of different projects. If you are part of multiple winning projects / videos you receive one headset, token prize, and one trophy like everyone else.

  • All rooms or inventions made by other players MUST be credited in the description of your video.

  • You are allowed to use old footage and clips, but the result must be a new creation/video.

  • All of the creators’ in-game @usernames MUST be in the description or in the video credits in order to receive prizes. Be sure you use the unique @username shown in your profile and not display names (shown above your head and can be changed)

  • If we observe any behavior that we feel violates the Code of Conduct in any part of the contest, your entry may be disqualified and/or your prizes may be forfeited. Be excellent to each other!

EXTRA INFO:

  • Please check this playlist of music videos that have won previous contests before you choose your song! We want to discourage people making videos from songs that have already won previous contests: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvVANGXSELv58Gg_UuTrjSMHQ1j14JH_T

  • If you get the go-ahead from Emily or Hairy to do a song with some expletives in it, we urge you to choose the Radio Edit version for this contest (if applicable).

  • You can recreate a video or do a completely original one!

  • Turn notifications on for the #contest-read-me channel for any updates about the contest. Keep an eye on that channel!

WHAT CAN I USE FOR RECORDING OR EDITING?

Here are some handy links for some free editing and recording software, if needed!

IMPORTANT! READ BEFORE YOU START: THE MUSIC I WANT TO USE IS COPYRIGHTED, AND YOUTUBE WON’T LET ME UPLOAD IT!

It is important for everyone to be aware that YouTube has a copyright system. Some songs will not be allowed to be uploaded or used for this reason. There is a way for you to be able to check if you can use the song you want before you start your project! Simply upload an unlisted video to a channel, and check to see if it will let you use it publicly. Here’s instructions on how to check!

  • Open up your editing program, and put the song into it. No visuals are necessary.

  • Render the video in full.

  • Go to your YouTube channel, and click the little camera with the + inside of it in the top right corner, then click “Upload video”.

  • Under “Select Files to upload”, click the “Public” box, and select “Unlisted”.

  • Either drag and drop the rendered video into it, or click the image above “Select files to upload” to navigate and select the video.

  • Wait for the video to upload and process. Once it’s complete, press “Done” in the top right corner.

  • Click the title or the picture to go to the video.

  • Click “Edit Video” under the Share and Save buttons.

  • On the right side of the screen, in the “Visibility” box, it may just say “Unlisted”. If there’s nothing else in that box, you’re good to go!

  • If not, and it says “Unlisted, copyright claim”. Click on that box, and click “View copyright claim details”.

  •  Under “Channel impact”, if it says “Not affected”, you’re good to go! You can use that song without the video being denied or it affecting your channel.

YouTubers with monetized videos! Be sure to turn off monetization for this video to avoid it being removed and strikes to your channel if you are using content that is not yours in accompaniment with your video.

QUESTIONS?

If you have any questions, feel free to DM emilywafflesyay#1577 or Hairy#2938 on the Rec Room Discord Server.

If you are unsure that the song you want to recreate is appropriate or on theme for this contest, don’t be afraid to ask either HairyManLegs or emilywafflesyay via DMs before you start your project. Better to ask to be safe than be disqualified later!
