RECCON 2023 is almost here!

RecCon will be back and better than ever on October 5-8 this year, with a new focus on creators! Join us in celebrating, highlighting, and showcasing our creative players of all sorts this year! We have a full weekend of panels, booths, and meetups for you to explore and participate in, so keep reading to see all that’s in store!

WHAT’S GOING TO BE THERE?

The RecCon lineup this year is all about creators, with tons of panels geared towards and hosted by some of Rec Room’s best creators! This means you’ll get to hear from your favorite builders, circuiteers, game designers, artists, staff members - even content creators and more! On top of that, with all-new meetups happening this year, you’ll be able to speak to and interact with all of these sorts of creators to build your network and skillset.

If that doesn’t seem like your cup of tea, we’re still showcasing creators with tons of booths for you to check out! See all sorts of new inventions, rooms, and more that are sure to blow your mind.

She’s a fantastic singer-songwriter and you’ve probably already heard her smash hits “Numb little bug” and “Until I found you”. Get Ready to Rock the Room… the next Creator Contest Begins!

With Rec Rocks just completed we want to see you bring your musical and auditory talents to Rec Room with the theme “Rhythm and Rooms!”

This contest is all about making rooms sound as good as they play! Create a room with an amazing original soundtrack! Or… Make an incredible room that uses audio as a gameplay element. Or… Build a gorgeous environment that sounds as good as it looks! 

Any rooms that feature audio prominently will be considered. 

Notable Changes from Past Contests

For the Rhythm and Rooms contest we have a few notable changes from contests past! Firstly, we’ve vastly increased the number of total tokens possible to win! Additionally, we’re moving to 7 finalists from 10. 

We’re also creating a new category for Rec Room Studio. This allows users with Rec Room Studio to participate in the contest, but only in this one category. 

We’re also being more explicit about what it takes to qualify to become a semi-finalist where your room will be evaluated by Rec Room employees. We’re looking at the top 50 most engaging rooms in each category. Engagement is a combination of player time spent in your room as well as the total number of visits. 

We’ve eliminated some previous rules about changing your room during the contest. It’s up to you to make sure your room is playable for players and judges at the correct times, and that it's built in accordance with the code of conduct! 

Additionally, because we’re taking things a little differently for this contest we are open to revisions or suggestions to the rules during the build phase.

How do I submit a room to the contest?

When you create your new room, tag it with #RhythmandRooms. Next, be sure to publish your room by April 19th at 11:59 p.m. PDT. Finally, we’re breaking the entries up into categories, so make sure you also include one (and only one!) of the following tags based on what your room contains: #art, #activity, #hangout, #pvp, #rrs or #quest. Please see the Guidelines below for more info about the categories!

The Science Department has been raided and the robot is missing!

Our favorite robot is MISSING and the Science Department has been raided! Research and testing seemed to have caused the power cores to turn purple, but Jumbotron bots have invaded and scattered the cores across the Roomiverse! Something about them seems a little off too... either way, we need those purple power cores back - and to find our robot friend! Be careful though, it seems like some cores are being protected by puzzles and enemies! Note that items on the dance floor unlock more rooms with Power Cores, but beware, I heard Jumbotron has set up camp in there!

As with our first excursion, if you decide to help us you’ll be handsomely rewarded. Every power core you collect will earn XP to get exclusive items and event tokens that can be used to purchase more exclusive items of your choosing. There will even be items you’ve never seen before! So don’t wait, head to the Science Department by clicking HERE before it’s too late!

Visit the Rec Holiday Market for the best of this year’s snowy chic fashion and come back every week for new featured items and creators. Start a snowball fight with your friends in the Winter Wonderland version of ‘Clearcut’ later this month, and chill out in the winterized Rec Center (honestly I think someone might’ve forgot to close the window one night, but we’ll roll with it).

The Science Department is back for the season of giving! They’re still inspecting the power cores, but the robot wants to host a holiday party for everyone in Rec Room. Presents have been hidden around the Roomiverse for you and all your friends to find - party up and find the presents together to gain bonus XP which can be used to redeem all sorts of limited-time holiday themed items. This event will start later this month, so keep an eye on this page and on our social media for more information!

Celebrate the snow falling with all sorts of seasonal events, gatherings, and with friends from all over the world! Art Contest 6

The 2D Art Contest is here!! Are you passionate about the paintbrush? Are you a master of the markers? Or just an expert with the erasers? Well, you’re in luck because it’s time to get artsy - and this contest's theme is “Sports”! We want to see all the beautiful and wonderful things you can create using this as your base concept.

Categories and an all-new custom shirt art challenge!

• We are introducing a theme with three new categories you can submit art to: 

  • Training:

    • Practice makes perfect and that's what it takes to win. We want to see how you train for the big game. (Shooting a row of 3 pointers, working the reaction time in gaming, bullseye with target practice)

  • On the Court:

    • It's game time and your skills all come to this moment. Show us the head to head friendly competition with going in loud and proud in front of that cheering crowd! (Cheering crowd over a soccer field, the winning shot, action filled play, big hit from a box or joust)

  • Award: 

    • Done with the games and how did it go? Is it better luck next season or did you bring home the championship trophy? (Team pic with the championship trophy, celebratory pizza party, good sportsmanship loss)

  • Custom Shirt: 

    • Time to apply the art on the artist! Create a custom shirt using the “Sports” theming. (Uniform from a game, funny joke about soccer, an action shot of your favorite player)

How do I submit my artwork?

The contest will begin on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, and ends on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022. Each player can enter one piece of art in each of four categories: Training, On the Court, Award, and Custom Shirt. Artworks must fit the theme of “Sports” in some way. Art must be done by marker or paintbrush on a drawable surface, such as a canvas, whiteboard, sticky poster, sticky note, gaming table or clipboard. There will be 20 winners for the three name subcategories or a total of 60 winners. 10 winners will be awarded for the Custom Shirt Category.

The 3 name subcategories:

• Take 3 progress pics of your artwork and save to Rec.net. (These can be private, but please make them public after the submission deadline.)

• Save the artwork as an invention, give it a easily searchable name, and submit all information on it through the Submission form

The Custom Shirt Category:

• Take 3 progress pics of both the front and back of the shirt. Save to Rec.net afterwards. (These can be private, but please make them public after the submission deadline.)

• Save an invention of your character wearing the shirt through a holotar. (Stand still, have both hands always at the side, and keep the mic off when recording.) If these requirements are not met the submission may not be accepted.

• Once you have the invention and pics, fill out the information here: Submission form

You can submit your art name and progress photos by going here by July 5th, 2022. For any questions contact Noctauto (discord: Noctauto#7241) on how to submit your art. All art will be placed in galleries for the players of Rec Room to enjoy within the next couple days after submissions are up!

Custom Shirt Warning:

Please be aware that the custom shirts are still a new feature. Everything should run smoothly, but if there are bugs that cause the feature to get pulled we will announce this on the #contest channel in our discord here: https://discord.gg/recroom

If it does not return before the contest is finished the category will be closed from judging.

Rules:

• One entry per category per person. All entries can have only one creator and will be given one prize. 

• When submitting, players are required to take three Rec.net progress photos of each of their artwork. These photos are required to show a clear transition from an early version all the way to a near-end version of the piece. If you send in a full timelapse of the art progress, that will also help.

• Submissions must not have been submitted in any previous official Rec Room contests.

• Acceptable media includes canvases, whiteboards, sticky posters, sticky notes, gaming tables, and clipboards.

• All media must not be scaled larger than their normal size at the time of being submitted, with the exception of the sticky notes and clipboards, which may be scaled as large as the largest dimension of the sticky poster. Submissions can have any orientation (landscape or portrait). Submissions can be scaled up or down as necessary during the creation process before they have been submitted. Keep holotars at the same size during submission.

• No maker pen embellishments (gizmos, shapes, etc.) are allowed to remain on the submissions. We will only allow CV1 Gizmos, shapes, and circuits to be used to help create the art prior to submission, but must be removed prior to submitting. CV2 will be placed on hold for this contest and reviewed if suspected of using it. If suspected we may contact the user and look into the invention to see what was used to make it. If you are using circuits and gizmos for your art you will be required to save your invention at least once for us to review it

• Third-party software (such as bot-created art) is NOT ALLOWED for the art contest. We may request to confirm progress via room or invention saves. Save frequently to ensure you are not disqualified.

• The invention must be last saved before the submission time. If you have any questions please contact @Noctauto before Tuesday, July 5th at 11:59 PM PDT. Submission cannot be guaranteed after this point.

• Disputes: If the origin of any art piece is disputed, players will need to prove ownership. We recommend that you work on your piece in a room that you have created.

• Players must have a confirmed email on their Rec Room account so that we can contact them if they win.

• All submissions must abide by the Rec Room Code of Conduct.

• This contest is not open to players using a Junior Account due to current restrictions around juniors and the creation tools.

Prize:

We’ll have twenty unique category winners, chosen by Rec Room staff, in three categories. Each winner will get a new white and goldish-orange contest shirt and 2,500 tokens! 

First-time winners will be issued their prizes.

If a duplicate winner occurs across multiple categories, they will receive stacked token prizes per win. Players can only win once in all three categories.

Duplicate winners will not be able to get more than one shirt to give away.
