GAME JAM 2020

Let’s make some games! If you’ve wanted to try making a game for the first time, experiment with a new technique, or just build something that will delight you, it’s a great time to try!  This isn’t a competition - no prizes, no pressure. We just want our community to have some fun building things for people to play!

The Game Jam theme is: PARTY TIME! Build a social game that you could play with a group of friends and tag it with #gamejam2020. Make sure to include a short video on the rec.net page giving a little info about the game and showing some gameplay (any style is fine here - trailers, instructional videos, gameplay videos). That’s it!

We’ll have some get-togethers at the beginning and end of the game jam to meet up with other builders, swap circuit tips, bounce ideas off of each other, and show off our games at the end.

The details:

  • The Game Jam runs November 2 - 8, 2020. While the deadline is not strict, we’ll be featuring some of our favorites from those that are public by 11:59 p.m. on November 8th!

  • Games should have a defined beginning and end, and accommodate at least 3 people (preferably more). These games should be social in nature and follow the theme “Party Time!” Some great examples: ^SpotIt, ^SayTheSameThing, ^DarkStories, ^3DCharades.

  • You can use pre-existing assets from your previous builds, but we encourage you to try something new! Rooms should be started on or after November 2, 2020, and should include a video on the rec.net page for the room.

  • Game jam events:

FAQ:

  • How many people can we have in our group?
As many as you want and can manage!

  • Is there a prize?
No, but we will have a small in-game memento of the Game Jam for all participants!

  • Can I do a PVP?
We can’t stop you, but it likely won’t follow the guidelines for the Game Jam and may not be eligible for the in-game memento.
