Creator Mentorship

The Maker Pen School, Bootcamp, and other Rec Room schools have been doing a great job at teaching players how to build on their own, but some players may prefer a one on one or more schedule flexible experience in teaching and learning. We are piloting a mentorship program and if you would like to become a mentor, or are looking for a mentor to learn more about creating in Rec Room, you can learn more below.

Becoming a student - our expectations

To become a student, you will need to be 13 years of age or older. You will need to fill out a survey to help us with matchmaking.

We are looking for players relatively new to creation who want to learn. We expect you to come prepared with what you want to learn, and we expect you to ask questions of your mentor. Students are expected to track their progress.

Becoming a Mentor, our expectations

Each mentor will take on as many as 5 new creators, and will guide them through a lesson plan to help them learn the basics. The mentorship will be for a minimum of 3 weeks before it can be considered complete, but may take longer depending on how long it takes the students to complete the lesson plan. Mentors are also expected to be on the Rec Room Art Discord channel RecRoom Art, and to be responsive when students reach out on the Mentors channel.

We will also have an option for master creators to mentor with intermediate / advanced creators. The requirements will be the same, except that they will develop a lesson plan together, rather than having a standard one.

Mentors must have a good reputation and be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the creative tools. They must also be able to devote a significant amount of time to being a mentor.

To become a Mentor, players will need to fill out a survey, which will include listing their previous work, this way we can determine if they’re qualified and it will help us match them with appropriate students.

Qualifications:

Builders:

We need to know that you know your stuff. 1 or 2 rooms isn't enough. You must have at least 10 published rooms and 10 published inventions.

Please note: you need to be good at working with people. Patience is a must.

Circuits:

You must have at least 5 published inventions which demonstrate a wide array of circuit usage.

What do students get out of this?

Students get recurring lessons with a Mentor that is established, and invested in their progress. Students will build rapport and relationships with higher skill players, possibly opening the doors to more collaboration projects. Students will also build confidence in their creative abilities.

What do Mentors get out of this?

Mentors will build relationships and gain recognition throughout Rec Room. This is also a great opportunity to give back to the Rec Room community. They can also earn the following rewards:
